‘Friends in Every Life’
Photo Project by Nic Boozang

Union Square Park, Oct 2026.

CONCEPT

I always loved the idea of male friendship. But with men in my youth, outside of my gay male friends, or women, I never felt I could be myself amongst friends. Of course, I have fond memories of goofyness and loving touch, but those were few and far between (and mostly while drunk). It wasn’t until I got older, left college, and moved to New York, that I met men who reflected the parts I loved in my friendships with women – loving, caring, curious, funny, gentle, kind, and thoughtful – and allowed me to by myself. Through them, I finally found the models I always wanted. And life blossomed from there.

In ‘Friends in Every Life’ (Working Title), I will photograph platonic ideals of a male friendship, in all of its forms, across cultures and ages. I will shoot groups of friends in either their natural environments (i.e. teammates on the field, dungeons and dragons players in their game room, co-workers at work). The photos will show everything, from mischievous buds and idiosyncratic pairings, to sad old commiserating grandpas and exes that decided to be friends.

Hopefully another man can find their friendship model in one of these images, and open their world, too.

PHOTO REFERENCES
- Close-up and Mediums; Spontaneous & Energetic Shooting Style
- Mostly Medium Format, with some 35mm
- Emphasis on Rich, Dreamy Color
- Emphasis on Moments (i.e. a glance, laugh, hug, wrestle)

CASTING
- Non-Models. Real People
- Small Groups of Real Friends, ranging from 2-4
- Gender isn’t important, so long as the dynamic leans masculine (i.e. Nonbinary and TransMasc; Lebsian and Cis Male, Two Cis Males, etc.)
- Ages 14 to 60
- Any Race or Ethnicity
- Any Religion
- Some type of animated persona or striking feature (i.e. extroverted and goofy; similar style, like crust punks or athletes; twins; gentle and innocent eyes)

I love the press around Good Will Hunting’s Matt Damon and Ben Affleck around 1997.
There’s an energy and fondness there that creates a really lovely and truthful dynamic.

I’m also interested in idiosyncratic pairs, such as twins or people in same uniform.

Otherwise, heavy emphasis on non-models and real friends. Queer friends especially welcome.

LIGHTING
- Natural, Dreamy, Yellow and Golden
- Sometimes Direct Flash (if shooting on 35mm)
- Shooting a mix of Medium Format and 35mm Point-and-Shoot

Thank you for your time.
